Phine (Jose) Skakey

Obituary: Josephine Henriette Smulders Skakey, age 81, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2015. She was born April 7, 1934 in Helmond, The Netherlands, the daughter of Antonius Josephus Smulders and Anna Helena Prevoo Smulders. Jose was employed for many years as an administrator in banking. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Thomas Skakey who died February 28, 1976. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday at the Annex Chapel prior to the service. During that time Jose wanted all of family and friends to partake of an old Dutch custom and share a luncheon of cold cuts, snacks, coffee, and tea. Survivors include her daughter, Josette Skakey (Giuffridda) & husband, Anthony of Mooresville, NC; her son, John Andrew Skakey & wife, Lynn of Rochester, NY; her sister, Marianna Mulders & husband, Leo of The Netherlands; her step-sister, Loes Dona & husband, Harrie of The Netherlands; extended family friends, Corrie Van De Ven of The Netherlands, Frank and Riky Blaakman and children in Rochester, NY; many nephews, nieces, and cousins; and many friends in America and Holland.
