Phyllis Sossamon Godfrey

Obituary: Phyllis Sossamon Godfrey, 79, of Concord passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at CMC-NE. Her funeral will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 31 at Memorial Baptist Church in Kannapolis with Rev. Tim McQueen officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home. Phyllis was born April 30, 1935 in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late James and Martha Eury Sossamon. She was 1 of 10 children. Phyllis was a lifelong area resident and longtime active member of Memorial Baptist Church. She loved her family and her church and dedicated her life to them. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Boyce Godfrey and 8 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons; Mike Godfrey (Marcie) of Kannapolis, Allen Godfrey (Angela) of Woodstock, GA; 3 grandchildren, David Godfrey, Payton Godfrey and Amanda G. Roberts (Jared) and 2 great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Ellison Roberts, her sister, Ruth Hilliard of Brooksville FL and many nieces and nephews.
