Phyllis Jean Smith

February 15, 1935 — June 8, 2024

Kannapolis

Phyllis passed away quietly at Best of Care assisted living where she had been a resident for the past 10 years. Phyllis was born and raised in Kannapolis and enjoyed her early life there with parents, Jasper Emory Smith and Atha Montgomery Smith. Her brother Charles Jack Smith is currently living on Lake Norman.

Phyllis left home to gain a college degree at Queens College in Charlotte. Most of her career was spent as an executive staff at the American Red Cross helping to plan recoveries from hurricanes. Her favorite times were when working with Elizabeth Dole and having a chance to fly in Air Force 2. She retired early to return to Kannapolis to care for her parents in their later years.

Her partner for many years was Frank Wilson of China Grove. She is survived by her son Michael Dean Smith of Moab, Utah. She has numerous relatives that remain in the area.

She was a kind person who greatly enjoyed church and bible studies.
