Phyllis Juanita Snipes Wood

Obituary: On April 7, 2010 at approximately 11:10 a.m., Phyllis Juanita Snipes Wood went home to be with Jesus. Born on March 3, 1926 she was the daughter of the late W.J. Snipes and Sarah McClamrock Snipes who had lived in Kannapolis. She was educated in the Kannapolis City Schools and Salisbury Business College. Phyllis was a very talented singer, a highly skilled seamstress, and a wonderful cook. Mama Wood, as she was affectionately known, was loving and caring to all who knew her. She was a great influence in the lives of many people helping them find their walk with the Lord Jesus. Her bright and shining light continues to shine in our hearts and minds. Survivors begin with her husband, Thurman Wood, who cherished everyday they shared together living out their 65 year love story; their daughter, and son-in-law, Cathy and Barry Beaver of Kannapolis, NC; her son, Rev. Jeff Wood and wife, Etta Wood of Surfside Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Natalie Pangalos, Leslie Beaver, Jeffery Adam Wood, and Miranda Mincey; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Tom Snipes of Kannapolis, NC; and one sister, Betty Plott of Concord, NC. The funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Jeff Wood and Dr. Tom Snipes. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
