Obituary: Plydene Griffin Nash, age 96, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC. She was born June 22, 1919 in Anson County, NC, the daughter of the late Plyde Alonzo Griffin and Pantha Simpson Griffin. Plydene was a graduate of the former Marshville High School and Kings Business College, Charlotte, NC. In her earlier years, Plydene worked at the former Charlotte Pipe & Foundry where she was secretary to the president. In later years she worked for Duke Power Company for twenty-seven years until her retirement. She is a member of First Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was involved with the King's Daughters Sunday School Class and the senior citizens group, Keen-agers. Plydene also found time to volunteer with Cabarrus Cooperative Christian Ministry. Her family fondly remembers her love of making pound cakes and pecan pies. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James C. (Chic) Nash, Sr.; a sister, Mildred Griffin Nash; and a brother, Kermit Griffin. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Dr. Thomas E. Cabaniss. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her daughter, Anne N. Honeycutt & husband, Keith and her son, James C. (Jim) Nash, Jr. & wife, Susan, both of Kannapolis, NC; four grandchildren, John E. Nash of Kannapolis, NC, Gina N. Anthony & husband, Richard, of Kannapolis, NC; Beth H. Bullard & husband, Kaleo of Cary, NC, and Brooke H. Yorke & husband, Brian of Raleigh, NC; five great-grandchildren, Braden Yorke, Avery Yorke, Amelia Bullard, Brandon Nash, and Eryn Chapman; and one brother, Emett Griffin of Greenville, SC.
