Providence Josephine Patula

Obituary: Providence Josephine Patula, 80, of Kannapolis died June 29, 2017 at her son's home in Rockwell after a period of declining health. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, July 8 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Her family will receive friends at her home after the memorial service. Providence was born July 25, 1936, in Passaic Co. NJ, a daughter of the late Paola and Maria Urciullo Patula. She was a longtime area resident and member of Foot of the Cross Freewill Baptist Church. Providence worked for Kmart Dept. Stores as a Regional Manager until retiring. She loved gardening, flowers and collecting shells while she lived in Shallotte, displaying them at her home in Kannapolis. Providence loved her Lord, her family and friends. She will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, Providence was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters, 3 husbands, 2 sons; Samuel N. and Glenn L. Smith and her grandson, Shawn L. Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Dawn S. Palmer and her son, James H. Smith III, both of Kannapolis, her son, Lonnie Parham (Rebecca) of Rockwell, daughter-in-law, Bobbie Lynn Stirewalt of Rockwell. Providence is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at her home after the memorial service.

Service: 4:00 PM, Saturday, July 8th at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel.
