Rachel Baucom (Mullis) Smith

Rachel Mullis Smith, 85, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, February 6, 2023 at Tucker Hospice House.

Rachel was born on September 16, 1937 in Union County, NC. She was a cherished daughter of the late Henry Lee Mullis and Beulah Rachel Baucom Mullis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Mullis Thomas.

Rachel spent her career working at Fiber Industries, retiring after 20 years with the company. After retirement she would take babysitting jobs and help raise her grandchildren. Rachel will be remembered for being everyone's grandma. She enjoyed watching her favorite Television programs. It filled her heart with joy to spend time with her friends and family. She would often spend time with her friends at the American Legion, YMCA, or VFW. Rachel loved the thrill of bargain hunting. Often, her and friends would have competitions so see who could find the "best deal". Rachel was a great cook and could cook almost anything. She loved her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Jerry Smith, Danny Smith, Jeff Smith (Charlene) and Scott Smith; daughter, Susan Smith Burr (Tommy); several grand and great-grandchildren; brothers, James Mullis, Harold Mullis, and Carroll Mullis; along with numerous loving friends.

The family will receive friends from 11:30am to 1:30pm on Thursday February 9, 2023 at Whitley's Funeral home in Kannapolis. Followed by a Graveside Service at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis at 1:30pm on Thursday.
