Obituary: Rae M. Litaker, formerly of 11 Merrifield Drive, Greenville, SC and recently at Sharon Towers Presbyterian Home, Charlotte, N.C., died on May 5, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Flow-Harris Presbyterian Church, Concord, NC conducted by Mr. Bill Jolley and Rev. Carol Hassell, chaplain for Sharon Towers. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord immediately following the service. The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 1:45 pm prior to the service. Mr. Litaker was born on July 15, 1923 in Concord, NC and was the son of the late Thomas Cleveland and Annie Whitley Litaker. Surviving are his wife of 61years, Louise Curlee from Polkton, NC and one sister, Mrs. Roger Felker (Nancy) of Charlotte, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Litaker served in the Army Air Force during World War II. After the war Mr. Litaker received his baccalaureate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He taught biology at Polkton High School for two years. He then received postgraduate degrees from Duke University and the Medical University of South Carolina Mr. Litaker was a life member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the National Rehabilitation Association. He served on the Section on Education, the Judicial Committee and the Section on Administration of the American Physical Therapy Association. He received the Lucy Blair Service Award from the A.P.T.A. for outstanding service to the physical therapy profession, which was presented to him in 1974 in Montreal, Canada. He was past president of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association and was appointed by the Governor to serve two terms on the Board of Examination and Registration of Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants in South Carolina. He was awarded the Emily Cate award for outstanding service by the South Carolina Chapter in 1994. He served as chairman of the Regional Advisory Committee in the development of the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Greenville Technical College. He served on the Appalachia II Home Health Services Advisory Council for a number of years. Mr. Litaker was instrumental in the development of the physical therapy services for the Greenville Hospital System in the late 1950s, including the development of clinical education internships in physical therapy for eight university Schools of Physical Therapy. These universities conferred on him the title of Clinical Instructor and Assistant Professor. He was a charter member of Flow-Harris Presbyterian Church in Concord, N.C. Later, he joined the following churches: Second Presbyterian, where he served as a deacon, Berea Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir, St. Giles Presbyterian Church and Pelham Road Baptist Church, all in Greenville, SC.
