Ralph Trantom Dickson

Obituary: Ralph T. Dickson, age 85, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Best of Care Assisted Living, Kannapolis, NC after a short illness. He was born July 21, 1929 in York County, SC, the son of the late Fred Edward Dickson and Ethel Freeze Dickson. Ralph was a graduate of the former Landis High School where he had served as captain of the football team and played right guard. Ralph was employed as a machinist with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Machine Shop for 49 years until his retirement in 1996. He and his late wife were faithful members of Coddle Creek A.R.P. Church, Mooresville, NC where he had served as a deacon and an elder. Ralph was a dedicated mason for 59 years having served as a former Master of Cannon Memorial Lodge #626, a former District Deputy Grand Master for the Grand Lodge of North Carolina as well as had served as a certified lecturer for the local lodge. He also served as a former Worthy Patron with the former Miriam Winslow Order of the Eastern Star. He and his wife were active members of Eastern Star for 50 years. Ralph was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict in Korea at the 38th parallel. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen Byrd Dickson who died June 7, 2014. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Coddle Creek A.R.P Church, Mooresville, NC officiated by his brother, Rev. Wayne Dickson. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with masonic rites conducted by the Cannon Memorial Lodge #626. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include his two children, Delaine D. Sherrill of Concord, NC and Ralph T. Dickson, Jr. of Mooresville, NC; four grandchildren, Ralph T. Dickson, III, Brandy Dickson Mullis, Laura S. Mullis (Jason), and Lindsey S. DeArmas (Roberto); fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; and a brother, Rev. Wayne Dickson (Deborah).
