Obituary: Kannapolis, NC Ray Bunion Gilmore, 90, of Kannapolis died Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Tucker Hospice House after a brief illness. His funeral will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 12 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Leon Waddell officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 12:00 to 1:00 PM prior to the funeral. Ray was born December 31, 1927 in Chesterfield, SC, a son of the late Bunn and Ida Rhynes Gilmore. He was a longtime area resident and member of West Point Baptist Church. Ray worked as a meat cutter for A&P Warehouse. After he retired he worked for Gulledge Building Supply. He enjoyed camping, hunting and gardening. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, his son, Jackie Dean Gilmore, his stepdaughter, Roxie Crisco and his great-grandson, Donald Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Margaret Stiller Gilmore, of the home; his sons, Ronnie Gilmore (Connie) of China Grove and Mickey Gilmore (Lynn) of Lincolnton, his 3 stepdaughters, Amy Jackson (Harry), Jean Murph and Barbara Crisco (Terry), all of Kannapolis, his stepson, Melvin Banks (Betty) of Lauradale, MS, 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
