Obituary: Ray C. Lemmond, age 84, of Concord died Thursday, December 15, 2016, while at Tucker Hospice House, after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 20 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Concord. His family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service. Ray was born April 24, 1932 in Cabarrus County, a son of the late Hubert and Kathleen Thompson Lemmond. He was a lifelong area resident. Ray was a veteran of the US Navy, serving aboard ship during the Korean War. He worked for Gibson Mills after the war and then for Fiber Industries/Hoechst-Celanese, retiring in 1994. Ray was a member of Young Memorial Baptist Church in Concord. He liked to be outdoors doing yardwork and enjoyed watching baseball, particularly the Cubs and the Braves. Ray also loved to watch old westerns on TV. He loved his family and will always be remembered for the loving care that he showed to both his 1st and 2nd wives and his stepchildren. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his first wife Ila Mae Newton Reece Lemmond and his second wife, Margie Marie Edwards Bryant Lemmond, his brother Ralph L. Lemmond, his stepsons, Charles S. Reece and David H. Bryant and his stepdaughter Betty Bryant Jarrell. Ray is survived his step-children; June Reece Baker of China Grove, Betty Reece Cauble of China Grove, Barbara Reece Burrage of Concord, Bobby Reece of Landis, Terry Edwards of Louisville KY, Judy Bryant Taylor of Concord, Randall C. Bryant of Fayetteville, NC, William Bryant of Louisville, Phillip L. Bryant of Mt. Pleasant, 25 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and 2 great-great-great grandchildren.
