Ray Monroe Scott

Obituary: Ray Monroe Scott, Jr., age 77, went home in the arms of his Lord on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his home. He had suffered a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 28, 1939 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late Ray M. Scott, Sr. and Hazel Utley Scott. Ray was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School. In his earlier days he was a volunteer firefighter in Kannapolis at Station #3. He was an avid fisherman and archer. He loved playing horseshoes and metal detecting and many other hobbies. He loved listening to football games on Friday night and most of all he loved spending time with his family. He worked in the former Cannon Mills as an electrician and retired from Foamex in Cornelius, NC in 2014. He was a member of Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge # 695, Scottish Rite Bodies of Charlotte, and the Oasis Shrine Temple. Ray was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis, NC. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Billy Scott. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Howard Tyas. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Elaine Goforth Scott; his daughters, Anne Aldridge (Mike) and Sandy Bailey (Jack); and his son, Van Scott; his brother, David Scott (Toni); his grandchildren, Shane Aldridge (Melanie), Dustin Aldridge, Josh Aldridge, Brandi Huffman (Jeremy), Angela Beaver (Jeff), and Heather Bailey; his great-grandchildren, Braxton Huffman, Jaylee Huffman, Harper Aldridge, and Miles Beaver. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Peckinpaugh, Dr. Wall, Dr. Mueller, and all the staff of Carolinas Healthcare System oncology and radiology for all their kindness, support, and loving care that was shown throughout his illness. Also, a special thank you to oncology nurse practitioner Susan and Humana nurse Amy. Memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 1578 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
