Ray Hartsell Shinn

Obituary: Ray Hartsell Shinn, Sr., age 81, died unexpectedly Thursday, November 26, 2009 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC. He was born December 10, 1927 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Elmer Wurts Shinn and Ruth Elliott Shinn who were formerly of Salisbury, NC. He was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#1 #1 Weave Room for 46 years until his retirement. He was an active member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC. He was also a life member of Cannon Memorial Lodge # 626. He was known as an avid fisherman by his family and enjoyed helping people with masonry & carpentry work through the years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Ward Shinn and a grandson, Christopher Lee Shinn in 1987. The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC Officiated by Rev. Jerry L. Rhyne. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the funeral home. Survivors include his three sons, Ray Shinn, Jr. and Scott Shinn, Sr., both of Kannapolis, NC and Jody Shinn of Honea Path, SC; five grandchildren, Sherry Shinn, Brandon Shinn, Scotty Shinn, and David Shinn, all of Kannapolis, NC, and Natasha Shinn of Augusta, GA; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Shinn of Rockwell, NC and Bud Shinn of Wilmington, NC.
