Ray Gibson Sims, Jr.

Kannapolis

Ray Gibson Sims, Jr., 78 years old, of Kannapolis, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 24, 2022.  Ray was born on February 9, 1944 in Cabarrus County to the late Stella Lewis and Marvin Lee Templeton.

Ray was a retired electrical worker.  He attended Cannon High School.  He and his wife Marie are members of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Kannapolis.  In his younger years, Ray loved to bowl and play football, but he was an avid softball player.  He loved all sports, but especially Carolina Tarheel basketball.

Ray was predeceased by his parents.  Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Marie Phillips Sims; his daughter, Michelle Honeycutt and her husband Fred; his son, Brian Sims; his four grandchildren, Corey Honeycutt, Tyler Honeycutt, Xavier Sims and Anthony Sims, and his two great grandchildren, Harrison and Hayes Honeycutt.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 2, 2022 from 12-2pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home. A 2pm funeral service will follow in the Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. George Morris.  Interment in Carolina Memorial Park will immediately follow the service.
