Obituary: Reba Louise Smith Fortner- Born November 24, 1909 in Sandy Cross, Ga. and called to Heaven November 17, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband William Horace Fortner, mother Jesse Bonds Smith, Father William B. Smith, Stepmother Alice Argo Smith, sisters Myrtle Alexander, Bertie Dennard, Blanche Hilson, Joe Perry and Alice Stack. Brothers Rev. Hoover Smith, and Blanton Smith. Survivors include- daughter Barbara Fortner Brooks and husband Dr. Joseph Brooks of Lewisville, NC, son Kenneth Fortner and wife Melanie Fortner of Concord. Grandchildren- Elizabeth Brown of Pfafftown, NC, Bonnie Bobbitt of Kannapolis, Lori Moseley of Concord, Lisa Furr of Concord and Michael Fortner of Concord. Great grandchildren- Joseph Brown, Rebecca Brown, Nicholas Bobbitt, Laura Furr Huey, Josh Furr, Kayla Moseley and Matthew Fortner. Mrs. Fortner was a member of Kannapolis First Wesleyan Church in Kannapolis for more than 85 years. At the time of her death she was the oldest member 100 years old. She had served her church as Sunday school teacher, youth leader, administrative board member, and faithful attendee and contributor on may other levels. She was a homemaker, gardener, and a former employee of Cannon Mills in Kannapolis. Everyone who knew and loved her will feel this loss, but are rejoicing that she is now in the arms of God. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 21 from 6:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M.in the sanctuary of First Wesleyan Church. The funeral service for Mrs. Fortner will be held on Monday, November 22 at 11:00 A.M. in the sanctuary of Kannapolis First Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Fortner will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Kannapolis First Wesleyan Church, 301 Bethpage Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081 Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Fortner.
