Reba Holmes Hardin, of Kannapolis, passed away surrounded by family and loved ones in Garner, North Carolina, on Saturday, October 22, 2022. She was 77.
Born February 10, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Wylie Holmes and Lydia Davis Holmes.
Reba is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Boyd Eugene Hardin, her son Derek Eugene Hardin (Christine) and daughter Rhonda Hardin Jones (David), three grandchildren Nathan Hardin (Sarah), and Matthew and Hannah Jones, and a great-grandson, Luke Hardin. She is also survived by her sister Pamela Martha Osborne and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son.
Reba was a devoted Christian, wife, and beloved matriarch of the Hardin family. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Landis and a previous longtime member of Grace Covenant Church in Kannapolis.
Reba had a boisterous personality and made every room brighter. She loved storytelling and traveling the United States. She was witty, thoughtful, and used her infectious energy to make those around her laugh.
She graduated from South Rowan High School in 1963 and then King's College in Charlotte.
She worked at Cannon Mills for many years, and later at UNC-Charlotte and as a small business woman. She cared deeply about the people around her and those in her community. She volunteered at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center in Salisbury, loved arts and crafts, and relished opportunities to serve others in volunteer roles. She grew up and lived in mill towns, yet was remarkably knowledgeable about regional and national events and had a voracious appetite for learning new things.
Reba was most proud of her grandchildren and their successes as some of the first college students and graduates in the family. Her memory and impact lives on in those she touched and we look forward to laughing with her once more in Heaven.
