Rebecca (Becky) Carter Brantley passed peacefully from this earth on January 21, 2025. She will be missed, but her presence remains with those who loved her. And we rest easy, assured by our faith that the next chapter is full of promise for her.
Becky was born on June 23, 1939, to Jimmie Geddings Carter and Gladys Roof Carter in Columbia, South Carolina. After graduating from high school, she attended Lenoir Rhyne College, where she found both her passion for teaching, and her future husband. Becky and Allen Brantley were married in December 1964 and the rest is history.
Following graduation, Becky began her teaching career, which spanned five decades. She taught in Lexington SC, and in Cabarrus and Rowan County NC. Her love of teaching was evident throughout her life, and experiences with her family and children always involved some learning component. Over the years and even into retirement, Becky would run into former students who recounted how their lives were touched by knowing her. What a gift it always was to her, and to her family, to hear the impact she had on so many people.
Becky is survived by her husband of 60 years, Allen, and their children Amy (Gaby Johnsen) and Scott (Melissa), her sister Mary Simmons (George) and countless nieces and nephews. As much as Becky loved her husband and children though, everyone who knew her knew that her grandchildren were the light of her life and the joy of her existence. Sidney Brantley and Levi Brantley were her constant loving support and it is with them that her memory will live on, and her presence be most missed.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church in Kannapolis NC, where she has been a member since 1965. Visitation will be from 1:00pm – 2:00pm, with the service to follow. Her family invites everyone to join them in this celebration, to remember a life well lived.
