Obituary: Rebecca Ann Chamberlain Hurst, age 52, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC after one year of declining health. She was born March 14, 1957 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of Edna James Bumgarner of Landis, NC and the late James Lester Chamberlain. She graduated from Cannon Junior High where she was voted "Miss Cannon Junior High," played basketball, and was also vice-president of her class. At A.L. Brown High School she also played basketball. In earlier years she was active in the childcare field and later spent much of her life as a homemaker. She attended God's Church of Faith, Kannapolis, NC. In later years she retired from work due to a disability. In addition to her father she is preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Hurst; and her sister, Deborah Elizabeth Chamberlain. The funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, January 15, 2010 at God's Church of Faith, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Jeff Upright. Burial will follow at Kannapolis Cemetery, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Survivors in addition to her mother include, two sisters, Sherry Chamberlain of New York (Manhatten), New York, and Jenny Chamberlain Powell of Myrtle Beach, SC; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, especially including her aunt & uncle, Kay & Ray Johnson of Kannapolis, NC who were very special friends. The family would like to offer a special thank-you to Rev. Jeff Upright and Rev. Tim Brown for the comfort & support they provided during the last hours of Rebecca's critical illness.
