Obituary: Rebecca Strickland Starnes, 93, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House. Born December 20, 1922 in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Carrie Lula Pruett Strickland. Rebecca retired from Cannon Mills after more than 40 years of service and was a lifelong member of Unity United Methodist Church. Rebecca loved her flower garden, enjoyed bird watching, the beach and loved watching her family play softball. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Starnes; and her brothers, Everette, Walter and Lewis Strickland. Family members left with cherished memories include her daughters, Allie Knight, Brenda Cromer (Roy), Robbie Dickerson (Ron) and Vickie Starnes; her sister, Louise Houston; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and a number of step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mrs. Starnes will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 16th at Unity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Tim Whittington and Carl Settle. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in Harvest Center of Unity UMC, following the funeral service.
