Regina Walker Coggins

Obituary: Regina Walker Coggins, age 83, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare System-NorthEast, Concord, NC. She was born April 13, 1932 in Rutherford County, NC, the daughter of the late Ben Walker and Bessie Mae Gage Walker. Regina was employed with the former Neebles Hosiery, Charlotte, NC for many years. She was an active member of CrownPointe Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she participated in the senior programs and traveled with the church group to most places supported by the church. She and her late husband also enjoyed dancing with the Swinging Seniors Group. They further fulfilled their lives traveling across the North American continent many times and in addition took in many long-term cruises. Her family fondly remembers her love of cooking especially her fried chicken and homemade biscuits. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Julian L. Coggins, Sr.; and a daughter, Diane Sherrill; one granddaughter, Michelle Day; and four siblings, Virginia Linder, Charles Walker, Kathleen Bradley, and Mattie Lee Dukes. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at CrownPointe Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Gene Beaver. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Tuesday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include two daughters, Debi Cole of Harrisburg, NC and Wanda Hightower (Stuart) of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Kandy, Beverly, Amanda, and Jason; four great-grandchildren, Danielle, Haley, Sydney, and Jake; and four siblings, Joe Walker, Vic Walker, Mickie Hamrick, and Lib Earley. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Pruitt Health- Town Center, Harrisburg, NC for the love and care given to our mother during the time she made her temporary home there.
