Reid Wayne "Rusty" Smith

Reid Wayne “Rusty” Smith, 79 years old, of Rockwell, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 19, 2023. Rusty was born on August 25, 1943, in Cabarrus County to the late Ray and Pansy Faggart Smith.

Rusty proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam war serving from 1964 to 1968.  Rusty was the owner of Rusty Smith Forklift Service for 40 + years.  Besides running his business, he also loved to work on hot rods and riding his motorcycle.  He and his wife Linda have been long-time members and were married at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Concord.

Rusty is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Drye Smith; his daughters, Brandi Smith and her partner Todd Long and Stacy Herring and her husband Douglas and his two grandsons, Avery and Ian Herring.

The family of Rusty would like to thank the Salisbury VA Hospital staff for the care they provided for him and all veterans.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, 3pm in the Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel.
