Obituary: Retha Thompson Griffin, 92 of Kannapolis, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Morningside Assisted Living, following a period of declining health. Mrs. Griffin was born in Stanly County, a daughter of the late Pearl Richardson and Ora Whitley Thompson. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband; Emsley Cleve Griffin who died October 23, 2004, a grandson; Richard (Ricky) Meeks Jr., 5 sisters and 2 brothers. She was retired from Fieldcrest Cannon where she was a data processor and was a member of First Wesleyan Church. Funeral services for Mrs. Griffin will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel with Rev. Edwin Chriscoe officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the services from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Monday at Whitley's Funeral Home. Mrs. Griffin is survived by her son; Ronald Griffin and wife Sharon of Kannapolis, her daughter; Marion Meeks of Concord, grandchildren; Deborah Meeks, Michael and Steven Griffin, one great-granddaughter; Akela Griffin, and her number one friend; Watt Rogers of Kannapolis.
