Rev. Charlie Davis

Obituary: Rev. Charlie Davis, 75, went home to be with his Lord unexpectedly Friday evening, December 11, 2015. Born May 28, 1940 in Goldsboro, NC, he was a son of the late Henry Thomas and Ruby Parish Davis. Charlie received a full scholarship, playing football for and graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill. He had also played two years, as a running back, in the NFL for the Washington Redskins, until an elbow injury sidelined him. He had also honorably served his country in the US Army. A graduate of Duke University's Divinity School, Charlie became a United Methodist minister. He ministered two churches in Maggie Valley, while serving summers at Lake Junaluska. Moving to Concord, he pastored 3 years at Center UMC, then served 13 years as chaplain at Stonewall Jackson Training School. He then served and retired as the NC Chaplain with the NC Dept. of Corrections. Following his retirement, Charlie served as part time chaplain at Northeast Medical Center for 5 years. He was also very instrumental in starting an area homeless ministry. A very gentle, caring, peaceful and loving man, Charlie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Family members left with cherished memories include his wife, Patsy Davis; his children Mike Davis of Harrisburg, Shannon Bradley of Charlotte, Cindy Jeanfreau of Delaware, Todd Rumple of Kannapolis, Chad Rumple of Maryland, and Nicole Dodson of Arkansas; a great-granddaughter and "his little shadow" Jaycie Donahue,; brother Don Davis (Pam), of Hilton Head, SC; sister Louise Andrews of Virginia beach, VA; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 15, at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis, conducted by Larry Pittman and Jeff Bradshaw. The family will receive friends following the service until 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Salvation Army Homeless Shelter, 216 Patterson Avenue, SE, Concord, NC 28025.
