Rev. Jerry Woodard

Obituary: Rev. Jerry Wayne Woodard, 75, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Tucker Hospice House following a period of declining health. He was born August 7, 1938 in Cabarrus County, son of the late Perry Funderburk Woodard and Zelle Hall Woodard. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda K. Woodard. Jerry had retired as a project manager for Mc Devitte and Street Construction Company in Charlotte. He was a former member of West A Tabernacle Baptist Church prior to becoming minister of his church. After retirement he was Pastor of The Word of God Baptist Church in Kannapolis. He enjoyed building his home and also his church. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Norma Moser Woodard of the home, three daughters, Wanda Woodard Pierce (Brian) of Rock Hill, SC, Marsha W. Besig (the late John Besig) of Kannapolis and Lisa Woodard Cheek (Rick) of Mt. Airy, NC., six grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Bobby Utley. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
