Rex Alfred Baucom

Mr. Rex Alfred Baucom, 86, of Kannapolis, NC, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He had been in declining health.

Born on March 24, 1938, in Cabarrus County, NC, Rex was the son of the late Ned A. Baucom and Myrtle N. Baucom. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Phyllis Baucom.

A proud 1956 graduate of A.L. Brown High School, Rex went on to earn a business degree. He served in the United States Army Reserve for five years, with two of those years spent on active duty. Rex was a telegraphic operator and earned the Sharpshooter badge for rifle marksmanship.

Rex was the proud owner of Baucom-Phillips Jewelers for 30 years, a well-respected business in the community. He was also an active member of The Message Community Church.

He is survived by his son, Rex L. Baucom (Shelley) of Kannapolis; his daughter, Donna K. Baucom of Kannapolis; his brother, Mickey Baucom (Janice) of Kannapolis; five grandchildren: Rex L. Baucom, Jr. (Krystal), Jennifer Phelps (Thomas), Steven Tilley, Justin Tilley, and Chris Payne (April); and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Ed Burns. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the funeral home, prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

Mr. Baucom will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith, and his community. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
