Rex Garfield Messimer, Jr.

Obituary: Mr. Rex Garfield Messimer, Jr., 69, of Kannapolis, NC went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Kannon Creek Assisted Living Center. Mr. Messimer was born October 27, 1946 in Cabarrus County, NC a son of the late Rex Garfield Messimer, Sr. and Grace Lentz Messimer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Libby Messimer on February 21, 2012. Rex was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School class of 1967. He was a US Army Veteran serving in Vietnam. He was employed by Cannon Mills and later with the City of Concord. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include four brothers-in-law: Henry " Hank "Chandler and Boneta of Kannapolis, Brady Chandler also of Kannapolis, George Chandler and wife Karen of Orlando, Fl., Tony Chandler and wife Alice of Hubert, NC., three sisters-in-law Patti and husband Rod Martin, Debbie Furr, both of Hubert and Suzi Pulliam of Kannapolis. He is also survived by his father-in-law George Chandler and wife Bunny of Satellite Beach, Fl. A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Carolina Memorial Park conducted by Rev. John Harker with military graveside rites conducted by the US Army. Entombment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service.
