Obituary: Richard Eugene Armstrong, Sr. age 68; 0f 565 Westwood Dr., died July 25, 2009 at CMC-NorthEast Medical Center, Concord after a short illness. Mr. Armstrong was born March 16, 1941 in Cabarrus Co. to the late Grady L. Armstrong, Sr. and the late Ruth Crisco Armstrong. He was educated in the Cabarrus County Schools, North State Business College, Pfeiffer College, Central Piedmont Community College and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Mr. Armstrong was employed with the Cabarrus Co. Sheriff Dept. for 30 years retiring in 1991. He also was employed with Rowan Cabarrus Comm. College as a Basic Law Enforcement Instructor for many years. He was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, a trustee and served on the board of directors of the Franklin Heights Christian Academy. He was a member of the Allen Graham Masonic lodge #626, Scottish Rite and the Cabarrus Shrine Club. He was also a member of the North Carolina Law Enforcement Assn. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Franklin Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Grigg officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 28, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home. Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years; Sherran Leonard Armstrong of the home, 2 sons, Richard E. Armstrong, Jr. and wife, Pamela, Darrell Keith Armstrong and wife, Veronica all of Concord, a brother, Grady L. Armstrong, Jr. of Kannapolis and 6 grandchildren, Michael L. Armstrong, Maria E. Armstrong, Chad L. Armstrong, Ryan K. Armstrong, Delana Armstrong and Dustin D. Wade. Mr. Armstrong loved fishing, beach trips and was a devoted husband, father and Grandfather.
