Obituary: Richard Michael (Rick) Brenner, Jr. age 59, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 18, 2016 at his home. He was born August 6, 1956 in Hillsborough County, Florida, the son of Mildred Alice McDonald Brenner of Tampa, FL and the late Richard Michael Brenner, Sr. Rick was a 1975 graduate of Jefferson High School, Tampa, FL and a 1979 graduate of Trevecca Nazarene College, Nashville, TN where he attended on a baseball scholarship. Rick was employed by the State of North Carolina Dept. of Probation for approx. 28 years. He was an active member and deacon at North Kannapolis Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he also served as a leader of the Baptist Men's Ministry. He enjoyed going to hear live music with his brother-in-law, Danny Payne, along with hunting, fishing, and playing golf in his free time with other close friends. He is remembered as a proud father of four sons and one daughter. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by a sister, Cindy Kennedy; and a grandson, Jameson Pennington. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, April 23, 2016 at North Kannapolis Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Steve Pennington. Burial will follow at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, April 22, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife of ten years, Susan Payne Brenner; his children, Heather Brenner of Kannapolis, NC; Chris Brenner of Charlotte, NC; Andrew Pennington, Stephen Pennington, and David Pennington, all of Kannapolis, NC; one grandson, Greyson Pennington; and one sister, Connie Moulin of Temple Terrace, FL; many nieces and nephews; and in-laws.
