Obituary: Richard Dean Davis, 70, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Northeast Medical Center following a short illness. Richard was born September 21, 1943 in Cabarrus County, NC a son of the late Thomas Drew Davis and the late Gladys Irene Rivers Davis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Dean Davis, Jr. and a brother, Kenneth Dale Davis. Richard was of the Baptist Faith. He was a truck driver for 34 years. He loved to fish, shop and collect antiques. Richard was a veteran of the US Army serving in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart with two clusters. Survivors include his wife: Kay Black Davis of the home, one daughter, Jennifer LeTourneau (Raymond) of Birmingham, Al., one grandson, Jacob Davis, two granddaughters, Brittnay and Kayla Davis of Rockwell. He is also survived by one sister, Valta D.Wensil of Kannapolis, brother, Tommy Davis and wife Ann of Davidson, and sister-in-law, Kathy Wilson Davis of Birmingham, Al. A niece, Jessicia Hopkins and nephew, Joshua Dale Davis also survive. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Mike Hubbard. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the US Army and the Patriot Guard. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 P.M.
