Richard Steven Eckels

TSgt Richard Steven Eckels, 74, of Kannapolis, entered Heaven on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Born September 22, 1950, in Lorain, Ohio, he was a son of the late Donald Wayne Eckels and Betty Jean Lieman Eckels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cinda Lewis; brothers, John and Michael Eckels; and his father-in-law, Oscar Ray Christy.

Mr. Eckels had retired as a tech sergeant from the US Air Force after 21 years of honorable service. A loving and devoted husband, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather, he will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

Family members include his beloved wife of 53 years, Vivian Christy Eckels; his son, Phillip Eckels (Jamie); daughter, Stephanie Chessmore (Chris); granddaughter, Courtney Wilder (Justin); grandsons, Jason and Justin Wilder (Dysis); great grandson, Astril Moon; his sister, Paula Eckels (Mike); nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A memorial celebration of life will take place Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Bethpage Presbyterian Church with visitation following the service. He loved his Hawaiian shirts, so we would like everyone that has one to wear in Rick's honor.
