Richard Gardner

Richard Gardner, age 91, passed away on December 5, 2023, in Concord, North Carolina.

He was born in the Bronx, New York on January 1, 1932, to Bernard and Ellen Gardner. Richard grew up in White Plains, New York and kept in touch with his childhood friends. He graduated with an Associate’s Degree from Alfred State University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Iona University. In 1998 he retired from the Mamaroneck School District in New York. Richard proudly served on the USS Worcester (CL-144) during the Korean war and earned the National Defense Service Medal.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Diana Gardner, and children Lynette Gardner (Mike Abbott), Elizabeth Gardner, Alain Gardner (Patti), Peter Gardner (Songhee), Karen Swanson (Michael Lombardo), Gary Swanson (Mary Beth), Melissa Gardner, Kathy O’Brien (Steve), fourteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Carole, and his sister Marcy.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 12:00 noon at All Saints Episcopal Church in Concord, NC, followed immediately by burial with Military Funeral Honors at 2:00pm at Salisbury National Cemetery.
