Obituary: Richard Brown London, 89, of Laurel Springs, NC and formerly of Concord passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Ashe County Memorial Hospital after several months of declining health and a brief illness. Born in Rowan County on July 28, 1926, Richard was the youngest of seven children of the late Rufus L. and Bessie Williams London. Richard built a long entrepreneurial career which included building the Stop and Shop grocery store chain and raising Christmas trees in the mountains of North Carolina. Richard is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of seventy years, Mary Katherine Smith London; son, Daryl London and wife, Tammy of Laurel Springs; daughter, Lori Weaver and husband, Ken of Salisbury; grandchildren, Matt London and wife, Katie of Lake Orion, Michigan; Brent London of Concord; Anna Graham and husband, Jon of Burlington, NC; Elizabeth Weaver of Salisbury; Kaley, Jayden, and Caleb of Laurel Springs, and four great-grandchildren. Service: Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 20th at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Ronald Overcash presiding. A graveside service will follow at Unity United Methodist Church in Kannapolis. Visitation: The family with receive friends at Whitley's Funeral from 11:00 to 12:00 on Saturday prior to the service.
