Obituary: Reid, Sr., Richard Allen Kannapolis, NC- Richard Allen Reid, Sr., age 72, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after almost a year of illness. He was born February 20, 1941 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late Clarence Price and Martha Walters Allman. He attended Landis High School. In earlier years Richard was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One as a weaver and later as a painter. Then, he became a police officer with the Kannapolis Police Department. Later, he entered the U.S. Navy in 1967 and served in the Seabees for two years in construction battalion. During his time in service he was viewed by his superiors as an exemplary officer. Then, he worked for Pritchard Paint & Glass of Salisbury. Finally, he retired from the Rowan-Salisbury County Schools as a painter. Richard was president of the N.C. Public Schools Maintenance Association for two terms and won several awards for his services. As a devout Baptist, he was ordained as a deacon in the church in 1962. Throughout the years he served as a strong member at Landis Baptist Church and later Central Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC. At Central he was very active in various ministries of the church including chairmen of the deacons, building & grounds committee chairmen, cooked for the church, and cooked barbecue chicken for family and friends using his special barbecue sauce recipe. He went out of his way to make new members at the church feel warm and accepted even inviting them to his home. When time was left he enjoyed playing golf. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Janice Griffin. The funeral service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Central Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Curtis Parker, Rev. Allen Reid, and Rev. Gene Edwards. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at West Lawn Memorial P ark, China Grove, NC with military rites. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Saturday at the church prior to the service. The remainder of the time the family will be at the residence. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lois Baltes Reid; a son, Allen Reid of Kannapolis, NC; a half-brother, Chip Price of Kannapolis, NC; and sisters, Susan James of Kannapolis, NC; and Paulette Hines of Morganton, NC.
