Richard Clarence Richter

Obituary: Concord, NC- Richard Clarence (Rick) Richter, age 85, died Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the V.A. Medical Center, Salisbury, NC after seven years of declining health. He was born June 19, 1926 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Clarence Richter and Nellie Walker Richter. He received his high school diploma from Connellsville High School in Pennsylvania. In earlier years Rick was a faithful member at the former Bethany Lutheran Church and later Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and Council Member. He retired in 1988 from the former Cannon Mills Company after forty-two years of service and moved to Surfside Beach where they lived for twenty years. While there, they joined Surfside United Methodist Church. After moving back to the Concord, NC area he and his wife joined Harrisburg United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, NC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II having joined the service at age seventeen. He continued his interest in military service being active with the V.F.W. Post 8989 in Kannapolis, NC and later an American Legion Post. Among his many hobbies he enjoyed fishing, gardening, art/oil painting, woodwork, and upholstery. In addition to her his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Richter. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Toni Ruth Smith. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC with military rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Anna Brown Richter; two children, Brenda Richter Brown & husband, Tom of Concord, NC and Cynthia Richter Ledbetter & husband, Jerry of Mt. Pleasant, NC; Three brothers, Lloyd Richter and Ralph Richter, both of Connellsville, PA, and John Richter of Finlay, OH; Two sisters, Delores Richter Eutsey of Normalville, PA and Audrey Richter Childers of Concord, NC; Four grandchildren, Christopher Thomas Brown, Deanna Brown Miltz, Laura Nicole Ledbetter, and Ethan Jeremy Ledbetter; Three great-grandchildren, Trevor Dalton Brown, Zoe Sterling Miltz, and Zachary Stone Miltz. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220 or Harrisburg United Methodist Church, 4560 S.
