Richard Dick Lee White, Jr.

Obituary: Richard Lee "Dick" White, Jr., 73, of Kannapolis died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House following a period of declining health. He was born June 8, 1938 in Henry County, Va. a son of the late Richard Lee White, Sr. and Mary Gladys Belton White. He was a graduate of Randleman High School and attended East Carolina University. Richard was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church in Concord. He was a career salesman for the chemical industry. He loved his time coaching youth sports and shared great memories and friends from those days. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing and kayaking.He was a rabid Duke basketball fan and was so proud to watch his granddaughter cheerleading for Duke basketball and football teams. He also enjoyed watching the Georgia Bulldog's games with his son. His interests included genealogy and being an artist who produced numerous oil paintings, which are displayed in his children's and relative's homes. Richard enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, tutoring them and passing his wisdom down to them.He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Hertha Wright White of the home, one son, Richard "Rich" Lee White, III (Sarah) of Kannapolis, one daughter, Suzanne White Stapleton (Clark) of Davidson, four grandchildren, Lauren Cooke, Tyler Stapleton, Dory and Jackson White and one brother, Gary Max White of Earlysville, Va.A Memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Poplar Grove Baptist Church in Concord conducted by Dr. James Barrett. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary from 1:00-2:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. White.
