Obituary: Robert "Bob" Cook, 82, of Concord passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015. He was born May 28, 1933 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Nell Cook Hopkins. Bob was a people person and would start conversation with anyone. He never met a stranger. Bob was a kind and generous man with a fun and contagious spirit. His favorite passions in his life were spending time with his family, and being an insurance agent helping people. He also loved boating and enjoying the mountains. Bob retired from Nationwide Insurance after 42 years. He was a successful "grassroots" businessman who earned the trust and friendship of many folks in the Kannapolis community and surrounding areas. He was also honored to serve as a member of the Masonic Lodge and The Cabarrus Shrine Club, where he once served as President. He enjoyed being a member of the Kannapolis Lions Club, Winecoff Lions Club, Winecoff Volunteer Fire Department, volunteer at Camp Dogwood for the blind and visually impaired. He was also a frequent basketball and football referee and coach in the Winecoff community. Bob also served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his one and only true love and wife Faye Lipe Cook, his son, Steven Robert Cook of Mooresville NC, Grandson Robert Taylor Cook and wife Lacye Allison Cook of Concord NC, Granddaughter Miranda Cook Zoltanski and husband Mark Derek Zoltanski of Mooresville NC, and the grandchildrens' mother Teresa Taylor-Coffey of Denver NC. Sister Mary Ross Hopkins Atwell of Concord NC and Brother Samuel Hopkins of Concord. His 9-month old great-grandchildren, Rylan Robert Cook and Jake Derek Zoltanski will grow up hearing the memories and funny stories of their Great Grandfather. Bob was a lifelong member and supporter of Mt Olivet Methodist Church. Bob will be loved and missed by his friends, family and all who knew him. Our memory of you will never fade. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday August 2nd at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 3, 2015 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church jointly officiated by Pastor Cheryl A. Skinner & Rev. Wes Judy. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
