Robert Earl Cothran

Obituary: Robert Earl Cothran 70, of Charlotte, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 following a two year courageous battle with cancer. Robert was born on September 2, 1942 in Mecklenburg county, son of the late Frank Harrison Cothran Jr. and the late Jean Threatt Cothran. He was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Daphne Michelle Cothran and a brother, David H. Cothran. Robert was a home inspector, realtor, and a general contractor during his working years. He was revered by his family and friends as an easy going, loving, generous, kind and witty person who had a passion for classic cars, enjoyed shagging (a member of Lake Norman Shag Club), and especially liked chocolate milk shakes. A celebration of life for Robert will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis, with the Rev. Jeff Marquardt officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. He is survived by two daughters: Tracey Cothran of Charlotte, and Cassie Jenkins and husband Nate of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Savannah, Andon, and Reece Jenkins; life partner Sharon Malmberg of Denver and her children, Eric, Austin, and Morgan Malmberg, two sisters; Charlotte Taylor of High Point, and Diann Holt of Matthews; a brother, Frank H. (Bud) Cothran III of Scottsboro, Alabama; nieces and nephews, Frank H. (Butch) Cothran IV, Robin Price, Wendy Powley, David Cothran Jr., Mike Cothran, Mark Cothran, Debbie Pritchard, Renee Smith, Doug Holt, and Scott Holt; and special friend granddaughter, Christie White.
