Obituary: Robert Dale Smith, 87, of Concord died Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Tucker Hospice House after a period of declining health. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 2, at Gilwood Presbyterian Church with Rev. Nathan Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends at the church, the hour prior to his funeral, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. Robert was born January 1, 1931 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Moffit and Minnie Kisler Smith. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brothers; Kenneth and Merl Smith and his brother-in-law, Ronald Crook. He was a lifelong area resident and longtime member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church. He was raised on the family farm where he was taught the value of hard work. Robert was veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany. Upon his discharge he maintained his own dairy farm as well as working for Duff-Norton Hydraulic Jacks Co. for 22 years as a machinist retiring in 1993. His memory will be cherished by his loving family, which include his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Helms Smith, his son Bobby Smith (Tammy) of Concord, two granddaughters, Kari E. Smith and Jennifer Rose, both of China Grove, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 brothers; Garren, Elwood, Johnny and Larry Smith and his sister, Betty Gale Crook as well as many nieces and nephews. His family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Tucker Hospice House for the love and care shown to Robert and family during this time.
