Obituary: Robert Woodbury "Bob" Day, 87, of Kannapolis, NC died at his residence on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born on June 4, 1929 in Cumberland County, Maine, the son of the late Herbert Day and the late Elizabeth Small Day. In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his first wife: Louise J. Day, a son: Donald E. Day and a daughter: June E. Day. Also, by a step granddaughter: Tammy Miller, a step grandson, Daniel Fincher, a stepson-n-law, Danny Fincher and a stepson-n-law, Don Dolton. Bob was a Korean War veteran serving as a 1st Lt. with an artillery outfit. He was a Federal Bank Examiner (Field Office Supervisor) and resided in Cabarrus Co. for the last 12 years coming here from Charlotte. He loved to study math and his passion was bowling and cribbage. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Reba Whitaker Day of the home, his children: David E. Day (Nga Dinh), Diana D. Deal (Phil), Robin Day (Lynn) and his daughter-in-law, Linda Day (Donald's wife. His step children: Patricia Hollar (Dan), Diane Dolton (the late Don Dolton), Avery Whitaker (Grace), Kathy Fincher (late Danny Fincher), Myon Whitaker and Jeff Whitaker. His grandchildren; Michelle Day, Karen Day, Lauren Day, and Lenore Day. Also, by seven stepgrandchildren; Angie Hendrix, Amber Williams (Ben), Michael Whitaker, Amanda Dancy (Clint), Jason Whitaker, Dolton Whitaker and Maranda Wilson, and eight great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. A graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29th at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews, NC, with the family receiving friends Sunday afternoon, Nov. 27th at Whitley's Funeral Home from 3-5:00 p.m. Memorials can be left at: Shadybrook Baptist Church (Food Pantry), 1009 Oakwood Ave, Kannapolis, NC 28081 Online condolences can be left at: www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
