Bob was born October 7, 1935, in Delmar MD, as the first son of the late Calvin L. and Anabell Walls Figgs. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War. He graduated from Temple University with a business degree. Bob had a successful, 29-year career at IBM as an accountant. He and his family moved to North Carolina in 1979 from New York, and he retired from IBM in 1995. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling, especially going on cruises with his loving wife.
He is loved and missed by his wife of 65 years, Joan Pilosky Figgs of Concord, his daughter Joyce F. Hofmann (Ray) of Mooresville, Robert “Bob” Figgs (Wendy) of St. Petersburg FL, Kimberly “Kim” Figgs (Larry) of Concord, 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, his brother Calvin “Lou” Figgs (Gail) of Valley Forge, PA, and his nieces and nephews.
On April 6, 2023, the world lost an amazing man - Robert V. Figgs. His family was his world and he adored the love of his life, his traveling partner, his wife of 65 years – Joan. He was a man of God and a true gentleman, always quick to offer his chair, help in any way, and ask about your day and the family.
Born in Maryland, he grew up in Pennsylvania with his brother Lou. After high school and serving in the army, he and Joan built a beautiful family of 3 children – Joyce, Robert and Kimberly. While working to support his family, he earned a college degree from Temple after 10 years of night classes. This led him to a successful, 29-year career at IBM, which took them to North Carolina. Their children went on to blossom 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, who he loved dearly and was always there for.
Bob enjoyed learning and reading, but his favorite hobby was traveling, going on 85 cruises and countless flights to visit countries around the world. He loved many, made the world a better place, and is already missed so very much.
