Obituary: Robert Calvin "Bud" Kiser, 82, of Kannapolis died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the W.G "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury following a short period of declining health. Robert was born February 7, 1930 in Cabarrus County, NC, a son of the late James Columbus and Ona Mae Carpenter Kiser. Prior to his retirement he was an independent truck owner and driver. He attended West A Street Church of God and was a veteran serving with the US Army. He was an avid self taught guitarist and also played the mandolin. He played in many Bluegrass bands during the earlier part of his life. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Blane "Bobby" Kiser, and a brother Donald Kiser. Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Carolina Memorial Park with Rev. James R. Hockensmith officiating. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home main chapel on Friday, March 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Delores Rae Hardin Kiser of Kannapolis, Son, Calvin R. (Rick) and wife Valerie Kiser of Kannapolis, two brothers, Johnny Kiser of Fredericksburg, Va., and Jimmy Kiser and wife Brenda of Lexington, a sister, Laura Coley of Pineville, and four grandchildren, Sara, Stephen, Seth and Shea Kiser. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. " The family would like to express their appreciation for the support and caring shown to them from the Hospice Unit at the VA Medical Center. They would also like to extend a heart felt thanks to close friends, Dr. Mendell Jordan, Dr. Judy Jordan, and Joyce Carter. A special thank you to father-in-law Rev. James R. Hockensmith and brother-in-law Randy Hockensmith for their sacrifices and prayers for Robert." Memorials may be made to the Hospice Unit, Bldg. 42, 1601 Brenner Avenue, Salisbury, NC 28144.
