Robert Lee Simmons

Obituary: Robert Lee Simmons, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC after a brief illness. He was born June 18, 1932 in Cumberland County, NC, the son of the late Grady Lee Simmons and Fannie Elizabeth Williamson Simmons. Bob was employed as a butcher/meat cutter for fifty-five years having worked at Bi-Lo for twenty-five years and earlier at Harris-Teeter in the Charlotte area. After retirement he also worked for a local supermarket, Jones Brothers, in Mt. Holly, NC. Bob was a long-time member of Thrift Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC for forty-two years where he and his wife were active members of the Faith Team, Funeral Meals Committee, and the Judgment House presentations. For the past four years he and Mrs. Simmons were faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC. Bob was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. He was viewed as a wonderful husband and father and loved watching NASCAR. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, W.J. Simmons and a sister, Jean Fann. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 8501 Bellhaven Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28214 officiated by his son, Rev. Ronnie Simmons of Gastonia, NC and the current pastor, Rev. Gerald Bearden. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn West, Charlotte, NC with military honors. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday at the church prior to the service. Survivors in addition to his son, the minister, include his wife of sixty-one years, Sarah Louise Pless Simmons; his other children, Sandy Wayne (Tim) of Davidson, NC and John Simmons (Connie) of Stanley, NC; one sister Ruby Doris Page of Washington, PA; three grandchildren, Kyle Simmons, Dustin Simmons, and Brittany Sparks; a step-grandson, John Wayne; and a great-grandson, Levi Simmons. Memorials in memory of Mr. Simmons may be made to New Beginnings Church Family Worship Center, 605 E. Maryland Avenue, Bessemer City, NC 28016.

Service: 2:00 PM., Saturday April 23, 2016 Hillcrest Baptist Church 8501 Bellhaven Blvd. Charlotte, NC.

Interment: Forest Lawn West Charlotte.
