Obituary: Robert Lynn Lewis, Sr., 70, of China Grove, died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at his home after a courageous 2 ½ year battle with cancer. A memorial service to celebrate Robert's life will be held at Whitley's Funeral Chapel at 3:00 PM Saturday, May 12 with Rev. David Gales officiating. His family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday, prior to the service. Robert was born July 31, 1947 in Cabarrus Co., the son of the late Margaret Troutman Stokes and his late step-father, Larry Stokes. Robert was a lifelong area resident. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, fighting in the Tet offensive, Semper Fi. Robert received his associates' degree in business from CPCC and was a certified motorcycle mechanic. He worked as a motorcycle repairman and in inventory control for Landis Mills. He later worked for many years at Phillip Morris as a machine operator. Robert enjoyed his beach house and taking his friends deep-sea fishing. He loved to tinker with small engine repairs in his shop with his son, Bobby. He was an active RC enthusiast and an amateur Hamm radio operator, with the call sign, WD4IJX....... "RIP Robert". Robert is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sarah Karriker Lewis of the home; his son, Robert L. "Bobby" Lewis, Jr. (Toni) of China Grove, his grandchildren, Dalton and Taylor Lewis, his stepchildren, Adam Williamson, Eve Myall (Jason) and Monica Young; eight step-grandchildren, Felicia, Tyler, Zachary, Brooke, Justin, Jason, Braxton and Cory; four step-great-grandchildren, Madison, Skylar, Gracie and Liam; his beloved dog, Duke II, his aunt and uncle, Herman and Barbara Troutman; his lifelong friend, Wayne Smith and his special friends, Mike Karriker and Ken Stamey.
