Obituary: Robert Edward (Goose) Morrison, Jr., age 61, slid out of the loving arms of his wife and into the loving arms of Jesus at high noon on Friday, October 30, 2009 at his home. Jan was giving him a bath. He had bravely & with no complaints wrestled with squamous cell carcinoma for 13 months. He was born on December 31, 1947 at Lowrance Hospital, Mooresville, NC, the son of Mary Louise Hall Morrison of Davidson and the late Robert Edward Morrison, Sr. He was a graduate of Odell High School and Western Carolina University with a double major in business administration, marketing, and retailing. He wrestled and played football, basketball, and softball during his high school and college career. His golf game was never perfected. He played softball for many local teams until he was 42. His love for Harley Davidson began early with his first purchase in 1969. Ed was an avid reader and animal lover. He and his friend, Patrick Jones, ran a NASCAR racing business for 13 years traveling and selling as many T shirts as possible. His nonjudgmental attitude kept most friends for a lifetime. He was a man of his word. He married Jan Whitley Morrison after an eighteen years game of chase me chase me starting in 1971. His life really changed in 1992 with the birth of his daughter, MariMarie Morrison, whom he carried into the classroom until the 5th grade in his arms. He loved taking MariMarie and her friends on road trips all over the U.S. to see bands that she loved. Although Ed was sick he was planning for her future by building her a barn. His close friends and the community were helping him to see this barn drawn by her hands come into life. "For when a man falls down, his friends will pick him up." from Ephesians. He owned & operated Morrison Logging and worked alongside with Dlemar Wayne, Ron Overcash, and Todd Mauldin at different times in his career. His expertise in the woods & logging business with different crews and workers was admired by all who knew anything about the timber market. Ed grew up and was a member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church. He was later saved in 1997 at Bethel Wesleyan Church where he was married with his slate being doubly washed clean. He enjoyed both churches. The memorial service will be 4:00 P.M. Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Bethel Wesleyan Church, 4036 Old Salisbury Concord Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083 officiated by Rev. Joe Harding, Rev. David Lord, Rev. Alan Buckner, and Rev. Byron Whitley. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the church prior to the service. By Ed's request, his body was donated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine for medical research. In addition to his wife and daughter he is survived by his twin brothers, John Hall Morrison, Philip Mason Morrison & wife, Kathy, and Turner Alexander Morrison & wife, Susan, all of Davidson, NC; his baby sister, Henrietta Louise Holbrooks & husband, Steve of Apex, NC; his fourteen nieces & nephews; and eight great-nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to MariMarie's college fund at Fifth Third Bank, 606 Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
