Obituary: Robert Lee Simmons, 71, of Kannapolis passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Tucker Hospice House. He was born February 11, 1943 in Rowan County, the son of Eva Ruth Beaver Simmons of Salisbury and the late William A. Simmons. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Simmons, a grandson, a sister and three brothers. He was a member of Elwood Lane Freewill Baptist Church. He worked as a truck driver for Fredrickson Trucking for 30 years and Oil Products of Salisbury for 7 years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 22, 2014 at Elwood Lane Freewill Baptist Church, 1913 Central Drive, Kannapolis officiated by Rev. David Parrish, Rev. Tom Parrish and Rev. Wayne Watson. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the church. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Simmons, sons, Ricky Simmons (Terri) and Robbie Simmons all of Kannapolis, daughters, Pennie Wolper of Albemarle, Sandra Cress of Kannapolis, step-sons, David Bowers and Doug Bowers both of Albemarle, brothers, Tommy Simmons and Donald Simmons both of China Grove, 11 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 step greatgrandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
