Obituary: Robert Jackson "Jack" Sloop, 87, of 1405 Birch Street, Kannapolis died at Transitional Health Care on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. Jack was born on June 24, 1926 in Kannapolis, NC, the son of the late Robert C. and Wavie Morrow Sloop. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Moss Sloop 3 brothers; James, Gilford, and David and a sister, Audrey. Jack was a 30 year veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a Sub Mariner during WW-2 and during the Cold War's era. The service for Mr. Sloop will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Randle Ritchie. Burial will take place at Carolina Mem. Park. The family will receive friend's from 1-2:00 PM before the service at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other time will be at the home a daughter, at 692 Wilmar St., Concord. Survivors include his daughters; Edna Dougherty (John) of Nashville, TN, Deloris Mata (Norberto) of Concord, NC, grandchildren: Patrick B. Sturm (Wendy), Shawn Church (Karen), Charles Church (Tammy) and Robert Dougherty, 9 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Gary Sloop.
