Obituary: Robert Elvert Stamey, Sr., age 76, of 2508 Johnson St. died at his home on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. His death was unexpected. Mr. Stamey will lie in state at his home from 6:00 PM Saturday, September 14, until 12:00 noon on Monday, September 16. His funeral will be at 1:00 PM Monday at Bethpage United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mark Portis and Rev. Duane Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Robert was born June 13, 1937 in Rowan Co. NC, a son of the late Grayson Odell and Tinie Needham Stamey. He was a lifelong area resident and member of Bethpage United Methodist Church. He attended Landis High School where he met his late wife, Nancy Lowe Overcash. They were married in 1958. Robert worked in Cannon Mills for 10 years until he attended Winston-Salem Barber School. He then bagan a 48 year career as a hairstylist. Most of those years were at El Toro on South Main St in Kannapolis. He was a beloved father of 5, a dedicated grandfather to 8 and a compassionate and loving great-grandfather to 7. Through the years he pursued many community ventures and was an active Mason with Cannon Memorial Lodge. Robert is loved and adored by many and will be missed tremendously for many years to come. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lowe Overcash Stamey, his sons, Bryant M. and Rodney D. Stamey, a granddaughter Brianne and his brother, Melvin Stamey. He is survived by his daughters; Pamela B. Stamey and Tammy S. Wallace, both of Kannapolis, his son, Robert E. Stamey, Jr. (Kathy) of Mooresville, his grandchildren; Nancy S. Ratliff (James), Christopher J. Stamey (Katie), Robert E. "Trey" Stamey III, Amanda J. Stamey, Teena Marie Stamey, Kaylon R. Stamey and Hanna N. Stamey, his great grandchildren include Lauren Hunter Ratliff, Savannah Noelle Ratliff Ethan James Ratliff, Columbia Grace Ratliff, Bristol Dare Ratliff, Carolyn Danielle Stamey and C. J. Stamey, Jr. and his brother, Odell Stamey (Laverne) of Mooresville.
