Obituary: Robert "Gary" Stegall passed into eternity on January 13, 2016 following an automobile accident. He would have celebrated his 62nd birthday on January 18, 2016. He was born in Union County to the late Charlie and Lavonia Stegall. Gary attended A.L. Brown High School. He worked for many years as a driver for Piedmont Block in Concord, Isenhour Brick in Salisbury, and Boral Brick in East Spencer, and had recently retired. Mr. Stegall married Rebecca Keene on January 22, 1972; they were blessed to enjoy 43 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Mr. Stegall is survived by two children: David (Manda) Stegall of Conover, and Amy (John) Whitaker of Gastonia. He is further survived by five grandchildren: Owen Stegall, Ava Stegall, Ian Widenhouse, Pearson Widenhouse, and Peyton Widenhouse. Gary is survived by a number of siblings including Peggy Weast, Wilson (Debbie) Stegall, Max (Dena) Stegall, Christine (Bobby) Eudy, and Barbara (Hugh) Slawson. Mr. Stegall was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Stegall. Gary was a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, church usher, and volunteered with numerous community outreach projects. The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00 on Monday, January 18, 2016, followed by a celebration of life. Private graveside services for the family will follow the celebration of life. Whitley's Funeral Home of 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, is handling arrangements for Mr. Stegall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the food pantry missions at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, 2204 Summit Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
