Obituary: Mr. Robert Edmond (Ed) Tate, 86 died Tuesday, March 7, 2011 at Five Oaks Retirement Center following a period of declining health. Mr. Tate was born April 19, 1924 in Elberton County, Ga. a son of the late Henry and Fannie Madden Tate. He was formerly employed by Montgomery Ward and later Queen City TV and Appliance as an appliance repairman. Following his retirement he repaired appliances from his home. Many times he would give appliances he had repaired to people in need. Ed was a member of Centerview Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army serving during WW2. He never met a stranger and was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were a large portion of his life and his love. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Willie Rash. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:30 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home prior to services. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the residence He is survived by his wife, Frances Lucille Pope Tate, two sons, Ronald Franklin Tate and wife Terry of Rhome, Tx. and Robert Edmond Tate, Jr. and wife Tracie of Charleston, SC., two daughters, Glenda Tate Kirkman and Lisa Tate Griffin and husband Mike, all of Kannapolis, Grandchildren: Shawn, McKenzie and husband Adrian, Brooke and husband Mike, Nicole, Dougie, and Kayla. Great Grandchildren Zachary ,Dylan, Braelyn, and Mallory, and one sister, Mattie Tate Strickland of Kannapolis also survive. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
