Obituary: Robert Coy Wellmon, 85, of Landis, died at CMC-NorthEast on Sunday, April 14, 2013. His death follows a period of declining health. Robert was born on December 15, 1927 in Cabarrus Co., the son of the late Lee Coy Wellmon and the late Ollie Nash Wellmon. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Isenhour, Margaret Steen and Elsie Woodward and a brother, James Wellman. Robert was a member of Landis Baptist Church and when not in church, would listen to the service on the radio. He was a shipping clerk for Fieldcrest Cannon working for 43 years and retiring in 1993. Robert was a 1945 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School and was a member of the U.S. Navy serving during WW-II. Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Mary Ethel Wells Wellmon of the home, a son; Larry Wellmon of Ft. Wayne, IN, two daughters; Janice Teague and husband Timmy, and Patricia Hildreth and husband Tony both of Kannapolis, a sister; Hazel Greene of Charlotte, a brother; Charles Wellman of China Grove, seven grandchildren, and 4 Great Grandchildren. Funeral services for Robert will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel with Rev. Wade Easom officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the services on Tuesday at Whitley's Funeral Home.
